West Lothian Triathlon has a thriving Junior Section. From its launch in 2012, the aim of the club has always been to encourage participation and fun for all of our athletes. We now have around 20 members with ages ranging from 8 to 17. We are always looking to add to the squad.
New members are encouraged to come along to an initial, free of charge, training session. All that we require is that members are over 7yrs of age and can swim 25m front crawl without stopping.
Although we make use of other venues the majority of our training takes place in West Calder High School on a Wednesday evening. Sessions are 6-7pm and are led by our team of level 1 & 2 triathlon coaches. We alternate between swimming and running each week.
West Calder High School is an excellent modern venue with 20m pool and large gym hall for winter indoor training. This allows us the flexibility to deliver both run and swim training from a single location, regardless of the weather.
In better weather we also use local paths and the football pitch for run sessions, hill sprints etc.
Cycle training is usually delivered on NCR75 and on grass football pitches which provides a safe environment to teach essential bike handling and transition skills.
In 2023, we plan to have regular bike sessions on the new West Lothian Cycle Circuit in Linlithgow https://westlothiancyclecircuit.org/
Many of our kids love to take part in a variety of multisport races throughout Scotland including duathlons, aquathlons and, of course triathlons, but there is no pressure on any of our members to compete. We ask nothing more than for them to enjoy the sport and support their teammates.
If your child would like to join following this session, the cost is £5 annual membership and a £2 weekly pay per. These are paid via our dedicated team within TeamApp.
Damian Byrne and Scott Steven are our junior coordinators as well as part of the coaching team. If you have any questions about joining the Junior section of the club email juniors@westlothiantriathlon.com
